Michael Carney
about
Michael Carney is an associate attorney at Flowers Davis’ Tyler office, where he focuses primarily on estate planning and real estate law. With broad legal experience, he advises clients on estate planning strategies, probate proceedings, tutorships, and guardianships, helping them develop and implement comprehensive plans to protect their assets and loved ones.
One of Michael’s areas of particular interest is estate planning for families with children with special needs. As the father of a child with special needs, he brings personal insight and a deep understanding of the challenges these families face, allowing him to provide tailored legal guidance with compassion and expertise.
Michael’s real estate law practice is a natural extension of his estate planning work, requiring a strong understanding of property laws, probate laws, and asset protection strategies. He collaborates with lenders, title companies, individuals, and businesses to ensure that real estate transactions are handled efficiently and professionally. He also facilitates business entity formation and practices corporate transactional law.
Legal and Professional Experience
Before joining Flowers Davis, Michael honed his analytical and research skills as an analyst for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) in Washington, D.C. There, he:
- Drafted interpretive guidance regarding Board rules
- Prepared recommendations for Board action
- Assisted registered firms in resolving compliance issues
His legal experience also includes clerking for the Hon. John H. Bayly of the District of Columbia Superior Court, where he managed a high-volume criminal docket, conducted legal research, and drafted court orders.
During law school, Michael gained valuable insight into government and regulatory affairs through internships with a United States Senator and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Commission on Capital Markets, where he assisted in preparing briefing materials for the nomination of Chief Justice John Roberts.
Michael is licensed to practice law in Louisiana and Texas.
Personal Life
Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and four children and exploring the great outdoors. He and his wife, Genevieve, are deeply committed to their family and community.
