about

Professional Overview

Jose Castaneda is an Associate Attorney in the Tyler office of Flowers Davis, where his practice focuses primarily on the Defense of Governmental Entities, Immigration Law, and insurance defense. He brings significant insight into governmental operations, having previously served as an attorney for the Nacogdoches County Attorney’s Office. His experience includes matters involving sovereign immunity, search and seizure, eminent domain, the American Rescue Plan, the CARES Act, the Open Meetings Act, the Public Information Act, and multi-million-dollar contract negotiations. He has also collaborated closely with TAC legal counsel on civil litigation involving county interests. His background in contract review, litigation, and trial preparation further strengthens his Insurance Defense practice.

As a naturalized citizen, Jose’s commitment to Immigration Law is both professional and personal. He previously interned with the Catholic Charities of Dallas in its immigration legal services department, where he worked on VAWA matters, asylum cases, applications for residency, and naturalization filings. In his role as a prosecutor, he also assisted law enforcement agencies by preparing U-visa certifications for victims of qualifying crimes.

Legal Experience & Areas of Proficiency

Through the diverse matters he has handled throughout his career, Jose has developed extensive knowledge across numerous areas of Texas law, including the Penal Code, Family Code, Government Code, Election Code, Health and Safety Code, Property Code, civil procedure, labor and employment law, Texas regulations, legislative updates, and more.

Commitment to Community

Jose believes deeply in the value of community service as a way to bridge cultural gaps. He has taken on pro bono cases, served on community-focused boards, and is known for his compassionate nature—often helping to de-escalate challenging situations and serving as a trusted resource for constituents seeking legal or practical guidance.

Personal Background

Jose has lived primarily in East Texas since 2005 and has spent the bulk of his career serving government and law enforcement entities. He and his wife, Taryn Castaneda, live in his hometown of Athens, Texas, along with their two dogs, Teá and Luigi. Outside of his legal work, Jose enjoys spending time outdoors, watching Formula 1, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, hunting and fishing.
